US President Donald Trump has welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While Trump has called Modi "a great friend of mine," he has also warned that India will not shy away from higher tariffs that he has begun to impose on US trading partners worldwide.
"As much as India charges, we will charge them. So, frankly, it doesn't matter to us how much they charge anymore," Trump said during a joint press conference with Modi.
Trump has discussed reducing the US trade deficit with India. He also said that he and Modi have begun working on a comprehensive trade agreement that could be completed by the end of this year.
