Pope Francis has been admitted to Rome's Policlinico Agostino Gemelli hospital with bronchitis.
A Vatican spokesman said the 88-year-old pontiff's health requires medical monitoring after a few days of illness.
The pope has reportedly been suffering from breathing problems for several weeks.
