Reality prevents the US from being the guarantor of Europe's security. Hegseth

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has called on NATO allies to increase their defense spending and take the lead in ensuring the security of Ukraine and Europe.

"Strategic realities prevent the United States from being the main guarantor of European security. The United States can no longer fulfill this role, and we must expect a reduction in American forces in the region," he said.

According to the minister, the leading US competitor has become China, which has become its equal in resources.

"We are facing a communist regime in China, which is considered an equal competitor, threatening our homeland and core interests in the Indo-Pacific region.

The US priority is to prevent war in the Pacific with China. We must accept the reality of resource constraints and make the necessary choices to ensure that deterrence mechanisms do not fail. Deterrence must not fail," he stressed.

According to Hegseth, European allies must lead the way. "The United States will no longer tolerate unbalanced relationships that encourage dependency. At the heart of cooperation will be strengthening Europe to assume full responsibility for its security."
