The presidents of Russia and Syria had a telephone conversation

A telephone conversation occurred between the Presidents of the Russian Federation and Syria, Vladimir Putin and Ahmed al-Sharaa, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.

"Vladimir Putin wished Ahmed al-Sharaa success in resolving the challenges facing the country's new leadership for the benefit of the Syrian people, with whom Russia has historically had friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation.

A detailed exchange of views took place on the situation in Syria. The Russian side emphasized its principled position in defense of the Syrian state's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. In this regard, the importance of a stable settlement in the country and the activation of inter-Syrian dialogue with the participation of leading political forces and ethno-confessional population groups was emphasized. Vladimir Putin confirmed Russia's continued readiness to contribute to improving the socio-economic situation in Syria, including by providing humanitarian assistance to its residents.

Several current issues of practical cooperation in trade, economic, educational, and other spheres were touched upon, particularly considering the recent negotiations of the Russian interdepartmental delegation in Damascus. An agreement was reached to continue this valuable contact and develop a broad agenda for bilateral cooperation. The leaders' telephone conversation was constructive, practical and informative," the statement said.
