The US Senate has confirmed Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence. According to The New York Times, 52 senators supported her nomination, while 48 were against it.
Gabbard began her political career in 2002. She is a veteran of the Iraq War who served in the medical unit from 2004 to 2005. She then became a major in the Hawaii National Guard and later received the rank of lieutenant colonel in the US Army Reserve. Gabbard served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 2013 to 2021. In 2019, she announced her intention to run for president but later supported Joe Biden.
In October 2022, Gabbard left the Democratic Party, supported Donald Trump, and joined the Republican Party in October 2024. In November 2024, Donald Trump nominated her for Director of National Intelligence.
