Pope Francis has strongly criticized US President Donald Trump's "immigration policy" in an open letter to American Catholic bishops.
"I call on all members of the Catholic Church not to give in to narratives that discriminate and cause unnecessary suffering to our migrant and refugee brothers and sisters," Reuters quoted the pontiff as saying in the letter.
He said it was wrong to equate all illegal immigrants with criminals. The pope said Trump's plans for mass deportations of migrants were "a disgrace."
