Trump appoints prominent lawyer of Armenian descent to office

US President Donald Trump announced on his Truth social media page that he had nominated Michael Kavukjian as the next US Ambassador to Norway.

“I am pleased to announce that Michael Kavukjian will become the next United States Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway,” he wrote.

Kavukjian is a lawyer and former CIA officer. The New York Times notes that he has donated large sums to the Republican Party. In 2024, He donated $700,000 to Trump’s campaign.

Kavukjian worked for 35 years at the law firm White & Case, representing corporate clients such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Citibank, Deutsche Bank, and Northern Trust.
