Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky does not rule out that nuclear weapons can guarantee the country's security if Kyiv does not become a member of NATO. He stated this in an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan.
Zelensky admitted that Ukraine's membership in NATO could be delayed for years or decades. The president asked a rhetorical question:
"What will protect us from this evil? What is the package of support? Will they give us nuclear weapons? Then let them give them. Will they give us so many missiles that we can stop Russia? I am not sure about this, but I think it will help. Otherwise, what missiles can stop Russian nuclear missiles? This is a rhetorical question. "Give us back our nuclear weapons, give us missile systems, our partners will help us finance our million-strong army, transfer your troops to the regions of our country where we want stability so that people can be calm," he said.
It should be noted that Ukraine renounced nuclear weapons in 1994 as part of the Budapest Memorandum. In return, Russia, the United States, and Great Britain guaranteed its territorial integrity.
