Rubio is the new head of USAID

CNN reported that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Monday that he has become the acting head of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Secretary of State stated that the agency has behaved irresponsibly, and its activities are not in the national interest of the United States and should be reviewed by American authorities. Rubio noted that there is no talk of eliminating the agency.

The Secretary of State clarified that day-to-day control of the agency has been transferred to a State Department employee.

On Monday, the USAID headquarters in Washington was closed. Its employees were instructed by e-mail to stay at home.

President Donald Trump, according to CNN, said, “A few radical lunatics run the agency, and we’re going to get rid of them, and then we’ll make a decision.”

Donald Trump’s administration effectively shut down the agency, cutting off most international aid.
