Over 6,000 residents of the Greek resort island of Santorini have been forced to flee due to ongoing earthquakes.
About 550 aftershocks were recorded over the weekend, the strongest of which had a magnitude of 4.9. Scientists say intense seismic activity could continue for many more days and weeks.
Santorini receives about 3.4 million tourists annually, and about 20,000 people live permanently on the island.
“Everything is closed. No one is working now. The whole island is empty,” a resident told Reuters.
