Reuters reports that US President Donald Trump has said that the trade war between the United States and Mexico, Canada, and China could cause Americans "pain."
According to him, the tariffs imposed on Mexico, Canada, and China could have "short-term" negative consequences for US citizens. As a result, world markets fear that the tariffs could undermine economic growth and raise inflation again.
Trump said he would speak with the leaders of Canada and Mexico on Monday, who have already announced retaliatory measures. "I don't expect anything dramatic. They owe us a lot of money, and I'm sure they will pay," he said. Trump also said that tariffs "will be applied" to the European Union but did not specify the timing.
"We may feel a little pain in the short term, and people understand that," Trump said.
