In an interview with Megyn Kelly, US Secretary of State Marco reiterated that the Russian-Ukrainian war should be ended through negotiations, during which both sides must make concessions.
"What Putin did was terrible. Invading another country, atrocities ... he did terrible things," Rubio said.
However, he said the US administration's initial attempt to lead people to believe that Ukraine could defeat Russia was "dishonest." In this regard, Rubio criticized the previous approach to supporting Ukraine, calling it financing a "protracted stalemate" that had led to more tremendous suffering.
He noted that this "sets Ukraine back 100 years," as the country's energy infrastructure is crumbling and many Ukrainians are leaving and settling abroad.
"This is their future, and it is at stake. We have led people to believe that Ukraine can destroy Russia and drive it out of its territory, but Ukraine has been set back 100 years. This conflict must be resolved through negotiations," he stressed.
