The European Union will lift sanctions against Syria, which were imposed after the start of the civil war in 2012. The head of European dKaya Kallas, diplomacy Kaja Kallas, announced that the EU "seeks to act quickly" in lifting the sanctions but warned that the decision could be reviewed if the country's new authorities "take the wrong steps."
Kallas did not specify which sanctions would be lifted first. Reuters, citing its sources, wrote yesterday that the plan provides for lifting restrictions on airlines, including state-owned Syrian Arab Airlines, and a review of the ban on oil exports.
