French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Beirut, where he will confirm his country's support for Lebanon in its efforts to form a government.
Macron will meet with President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
During the 12-hour visit, he will also meet with the heads of the commission that oversees the maintenance of the ceasefire regime between Hezbollah and Israel.
The committee, which also includes the UN Interim Force in southern Lebanon, Lebanon, and Israel, is led by France and the US.His visit coincides with that of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who arrived on Thursday evening. According to the French agency, they can meet in Lebanon.
As sources close to the Elysée Palace told France Presse, during his visit, the French president will emphasize the need to "observe the terms stipulated in the ceasefire agreement" and call on "Hezbollah" to "give up their weapons."
