The president of South Korea was arrested

In South Korea, the country's president, Yoon Seok-yeol, who the parliament impeached in December for trying to introduce martial law, has been arrested in a second attempt.

This is unprecedented in the history of South Korea. For the first time, a sitting, albeit temporarily deposed, president is arrested.

After a prolonged resistance, this time lasting hours (as in the first attempt 12 days earlier), law enforcement managed to take Yun to the Corruption Investigation Bureau for questioning.

Before the interrogation, Yoon Seok Yeol released a short video message in which he stated that his arrest was illegal but decided to cooperate to avoid bloodshed.

"Although this case is illegal, I decided to appear before the Corruption Investigation Bureau to prevent unnecessary bloodshed. But that doesn't mean I agree with their opening of the case," he said.

Yoon also emphasized that the rule of law is being violated in the country, and the authorities involved in the investigation and the court that issued the arrest warrant were not authorized to act.
