On May 12, while passing the motorcade of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the teenager used obscene expressions. The representatives of the presidential guard later detained the teenager.
The First Criminal Court of Istanbul later released the 16-year-old boy, prohibiting him from leaving the borders of Turkey. However, Erdogan submitted a motion to the court demanding that the student be punished.
As a result, during the December session, the teenager was sentenced to one year and four months in prison. Now, he will spend at least 10 months and 10 days in custody.
This is not the first time that Erdogan has appeared at the center of a scandal related to minors. In July, he slapped a child who did not kiss his hand in 2023 during the ceremony of giving apartment keys to the victims of the February earthquake.
