Azerbaijani APA agency reports that Ilham Aliyev had a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin while on the plane.
Aliyev said he could not attend the informal summit of the heads of the CIS member states in St. Petersburg because of the plane crash and was returning to Baku.
The heads of state expressed their condolences to each other, to the relatives of the citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia, and other countries killed in the plane crash, and wished the victims a speedy recovery.
