US President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he may restore US control over the Panama Canal, accusing Panama of raising tariffs and creating unfair conditions. Reuters reports. Trump's statement caused serious opposition from the President of Panama, Jose Raul Mulino.
Speaking to a crowd of supporters in Arizona, Trump stressed that he would not allow the "canal to fall into the wrong hands," hinting at China's potential for influence over this important strategic route.
After the speech, Trump posted on Truth Social a photo of an American flag flying in the background of the canal, writing, "Anyone ever hear of the Panama Canal? They rob us there, like everywhere else."
