The Bundestag expressed no confidence in Chancellor Olaf Scholz

Deutsche Welle reports that the Bundestag has expressed no confidence in Chancellor Olaf Scholz and that Germany is expected to hold early elections.

Three hundred ninety-four deputies refused to trust Scholz. Two hundred-seven deputies of the Bundestag supported the chancellor, and 116 abstained.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier must decide on dissolving the parliament within 21 days. The extraordinary Bundestag elections are assumed to be held in February 2025.

This is already the sixth case in Germany's history in which the government has expressed no confidence.
