The Israeli government approved a plan to double the number of settlers in the Golan Heights, a Syrian territory it has controlled since 1967. The decision came after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime.
The government explained this decision "in the light of the war and the new front." "The strengthening of the Golan is the strengthening of the State of Israel, which is especially important now. We will continue to hold them, lead them to prosperity, and settle them."
Netanyahu also emphasized that Israel is "not interested in a conflict with Syria" and aims to define the policy by the existing realities.
