After 9 days of ongoing negotiations, the 73-year-old leader of the "Democratic Movement" party, François Bayrou, who was previously the minister of justice, was appointed the new prime minister of France.
"The President of the Republic has appointed François Bayrou as the Prime Minister and instructed him to form a government," the statement of the Elysée Palace says.
On Thursday evening, Macron spoke with Bayrou on the phone, and this morning, he received him at the presidential palace.
