"Al Jazeera" reports that Israeli troops took advantage of the fall of Bashar Assad's regime and penetrated important regions of Quneitra province in the south of Syria.
The Israeli army controls strategically essential parts of Quneitra, including Mount Hermon and several nearby settlements, which are within the demilitarized zone. Now, the troops have deepened at least 18 km in the territory of Syria, approaching Damascus.
Israel insists that its presence is intended to ensure that areas adjacent to the Golan Heights are not threatened and is temporary.
