Statement of the French Foreign Ministry:
On this historic day for Syria and the Syrian people, France welcomes the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime after more than 13 years of brutal repression against its people. Syrians have suffered for too long. Bashar al-Assad left the country devastated and exhausted, losing a large part of the population who were either exiled, killed, tortured, or subjected to chemical attacks by the regime and its allies.
France pays tribute to all these victims. While the regime was relentlessly sowing discord among Syrians, Syria was fragmented and fragmented, and the time for unity had come.
He calls for a peaceful political transition that respects the diversity of the Syrian people and protects citizens and all minorities by international law.
Consistent with its position and solidarity with the Syrian people since the beginning of the 2011 revolution, France calls on its partners to make every effort to help Syrians find a path to reconciliation and reconstruction through a comprehensive political solution by UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and the Syrian people by will. France will actively participate in it.
