South Korean police have started an investigation against the president. He is suspected of high treason.
South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol is suspected of treason after declaring martial law, the South Korean "Yonhap News" agency reports.
AFP, citing a high-ranking police officer, writes that Yun is suspected of inciting riots. The newspaper notes that presidential immunity does not apply in this case, and the punishment may even be the death penalty.
According to Yonhap News, the police launched an investigation after receiving two complaints, one from the Korean Innovator Party (an opposition party) and the other from a group of 59 activists.
Not only Yun but former Defense Minister Kim Yong-Hyun, Interior Minister Lee Sang-min, and Gen. Park An-su, appointed to maintain martial law, have been blamed for these statements.
