In the event of a major war, such as the Ukrainian one, the regular British army, with its present personnel, would be destroyed within half a year; UK Deputy Defense Minister Alistair Cairns announced this. Therefore, according to him, the UK must create a large army of reservists—reports BBC to Radar Armenia.
"In a large-scale war, not during a limited intervention, but in a war like the one in Ukraine, our army, based on the current rate of losses on the sides in Ukraine, will be exhausted for a period of six months to a year," he said, speaking at the Royal Institute for Defense Studies (RUSI) in London.
He noted that according to the calculations of Ukraine and its allies, Russia loses about one and a half thousand people killed and wounded every day. The number of land forces of the British army, excluding the navy and aviation, is now about 109 thousand people, including 26 thousand volunteer reservists.
