Reuters informs Radar Armenia that South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol's surprise attempt to impose martial law in the country failed after six hours.
"The National Assembly has demanded the lifting of the state of emergency, and we have recalled the military personnel involved in the operations to introduce the martial law. We will accept the demand of the National Assembly and abolish the martial law at the government session," Yun Sok Yeol said in a televised message. After that, the Cabinet of Ministers met and voted to cancel the martial law, Yonhap reports, and the military returned to their units.
The entire presidential staff resigned on Wednesday morning. At 10 a.m. local time, the president had not yet made any new announcements.
The opponents of the president from the Democratic Party, who have a majority in the parliament, have announced that if he does not voluntarily resign, they will initiate an impeachment process—to protect the threats from the DPRK. According to the President, the danger comes from both North Korea and local "anti-state elements" that need to be eradicated.
