SOHR monitors said that over the past few hours, Bashar al-Assad's government has deployed significant forces and is establishing a defensive line in the town of Taibat Al-Imam and the villages of Hattab and Suran in northern Hama province, as well as in the cities of As-Suqaylabiyya and Mahrada, where mainly Christians live in the northwest of the state.
The government troops have withdrawn from Aleppo. The Syrian opposition, whose main elements are the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham movement and the pro-Turkish groups, controls the second-largest city of Aleppo.
Idlib and Hamma are located south of Aleppo. Opposition forces maintain control over the northwestern part of Idlib city and most of the surrounding province.
