Militants of the Syrian Sunni radical group "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" and their allies captured several vital positions in the province of Aleppo during the attack that began on the night of November 28, including the city of Aleppo and its suburbs.
"Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" is a jihadist group that earlier left the structure of "Jabhat al-Nusra," the Syrian branch of "Al-Qaeda." The group has been recognized as a terrorist organization in many countries.
According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), many fighters and soldiers of the Syrian government's army have been killed in the fighting. The attackers reportedly captured weapons and armor depots.
Detachments of Syrian anti-government groups have already appeared about 1 km from the outskirts of Aleppo, reports the Turkish Anadolu agency, citing its sources.
After the night battles, the anti-government forces approached New Aleppo, one of the suburbs of the city.
As Anadolu reports, the opposition has taken control of 56 villages and other objects, an area of 400 square kilometers in Aleppo and Idlib provinces. He also managed to seize heavy weapons, vehicles, and warehouses.
Reuters reports that this is the most significant attack by opponents of Bashar Assad's regime since March 2020, when Russia, which supports Assad, and Turkey, which supports Islamists, agreed on a ceasefire.
