The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, has confirmed his country's intention to join NATO.
On November 28, he told reporters that Nicosia is negotiating with Washington on ways to join the alliance. According to him, the Republic of Cyprus's inability to become a NATO member state due to Turkey's objections deprives the country's army of modernization and many opportunities to acquire military equipment.
Christodoulidis noted that Cyprus discusses three proposed levels of the Republic's membership with the United States in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
