Former football player Mikhail Kavelashvili will be the candidate for the president of "Georgian Dream," said the honorary president of the ruling party, Bidzina Ivanishvili.
"Honesty, justice, patriotism, and principles distinguish Mikhail Kavelashvili. He is the epitome of a Georgian man by nature, by habit, if you will. He is a wonderful husband and father of four children. Considering the above, the team unanimously decided to nominate Mikhail Kavelashvili for President of Georgia," Ivanishvili stated.
Kavelashvili was one of the leaders of the People's Power party, officially separated from the ruling party, number 18 of the Georgian Dream, in the October 26 parliamentary elections.
Mikhail Kavelashvili is a football veteran. He started his sports career in Lokomotiv Tbilisi and then moved to Dynamo, in which he became the six-time champion of Georgia (28 games, 3 goals). He also played in various clubs in Switzerland. He participated in 46 matches as part of the Georgian national team and scored 9 goals.
