Lebanon is on the verge of collapse. Borrell

European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrell is ending his diplomatic career with a visit to Lebanon. He said that the country is "on the verge of collapse."

He called for pressure on the Shiite extremist group Hezbollah and Israel to accept a US ceasefire proposal, pledging 200 million euros for the Lebanese army.

Borel announced his willingness to support the Lebanese financially during his visit to Beirut. This trip is the last before the end of Borrell's term of office, and he did not hide his intentions "to end the mandate in a region where events are putting the international community to the test of whether we want and are capable of establishing peace."

The Lebanon-based Hezbollah group has been designated a terrorist organization by the United States and Israel, while the EU considers only its combat wing to be a terrorist organization.
