Despite his meager rating, Scholz will be a chancellor candidate

Recently, leaders of Germany's Social Democratic Party, which heads the current ruling coalition, have debated who to nominate as chancellor in February's snap election.

The current government leader, Olaf Scholz, has announced that he wants to be re-elected, but he has the lowest approval rating (31.4) among all major German politicians. Another Social Democrat, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, is the most popular politician in Germany (52, 8).

Several prominent party members and regional cells supported Pistorius, but most party leadership remained loyal to Scholz. As a result, they won. On Thursday, the defense minister announced that he would not run for the position of chancellor. According to the INSA Sociological Institute, Scholz lost to the other candidates, Friedrich Merz and Robert Habeck.

The journalist of the Italian Corriere della Sera periodical asked Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the former captain of the Armenian national team, whether the football player will become a coach, politician, or president after his career ends.
