US President Joe Biden intends to write off the US debt of 4.6 billion dollars, according to a letter from the Biden administration to Congress, which is available to the Bloomberg news agency.
That amount is half of the nine billion dollar loan Congress allocated to Ukraine this spring as part of a $60 billion aid package for Kyiv.
In April, this money was allocated as a loan at the initiative of Republican lawmakers. Initially, Donald Trump had proposed this idea. Congress's decision provided the possibility of debt forgiveness.
As Bloomberg writes, President Biden's decision is one of several recent moves to provide Kyiv with as much aid as possible in the remaining two months of his presidency.
