Moldova and the United Kingdom signed a defense agreement

Reuters reports that Moldova has signed a security and defense cooperation agreement with the United Kingdom.

Britain and Romania are said to have offered their support to Moldova to deal with the aftermath of Russia's 1,000-day invasion of neighboring Ukraine.

According to the United Kingdom's statement, the agreement's purpose is to expand cooperation between the two countries and strengthen Moldova's resistance to external threats. Foreign Minister David Lamy noted the significant influx of Ukrainian refugees into Moldova, including 50,000 children, after the invasion of Russia in February 2022.

As part of the partnership, a readmission agreement was also signed, ensuring the return of illegal Moldovan citizens to the UK. In addition, London will provide £2 million to improve Moldova's defenses against cyber attacks and £5 million to strengthen the health system to help refugees.
