On November 18, the 79th session of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on cooperation between the UN and the CSTO. Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan submitted it. Armenia did not participate in the project presentation.
The document emphasizes that the CSTO significantly contributes to strengthening its peacekeeping potential and regional security and stability system, countering terrorism and organized transnational crime, illegal drug and arms trafficking, combating illegal migration and trade of people, and the consequences of natural and artificial disasters—the elimination, which contributes to realizing the goals and principles of the United Nations.
The General Assembly suggested the UN Secretary-General hold regular consultations with the CSTO Secretary-General within the framework of bilateral contacts and conferences of various formats.
The UN and the CSTO will continue to cooperate to consistently and comprehensively implement the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
Both organizations will study possible ways to develop cooperation in peacekeeping further.
