Before the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, announced that more than 100 million euros is proposed to be allocated to the organizations of the Georgian political society in the EU at the expense of the funds previously planned for the government of Georgia.
"It is necessary to make specific decisions. I propose to stop an essential part of the support programs that go to the government. More than 100 million euros will be frozen and, instead of going to the government, will be allocated to civil society organizations. So we will take that money, about 100 million, and transfer it to civil society organizations to support them in their fight for fair elections.
The EU accession process has been suspended until the Georgian government returns to its previous course. And to return to the old way, a lot needs to be changed. During that time, we will use the money allocated to the government for the people fighting for their freedom," he said.
