Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat said Turkey had received an offer from BRICS to become a partner state and an associate union member.
"BRICS is a cooperation organization and includes important countries that account for 25% of the world's GDP. BRICS is growing in popularity. As for Turkey's membership in BRICS, we have been offered associate membership. Joining the structure will bring significant benefits to Turkey from the point of view of cooperation with all important global platforms," Bolat was quoted as saying by the Haber TV channel.
The minister reminded the audience that Turkey's and several other countries' applications were considered at the last BRICS summit in Kazan.
"As we understand, they offer us the status of a partner. Moreover, there is no question that India will veto our membership," Bolat added.
