CNN reports that President-elect Donald Trump will nominate South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as the next Homeland Security Secretary.
Noem's appointment comes amid the appointments of two critical immigration hardliners, Stephen Miller and Tom Homan, to essential posts.
The newspaper reports that this shows that Trump is serious about his promises on immigration. By choosing Noem, Trump guarantees his loyal person will head the agency, which is his priority.
The agency has a $60 billion budget and hundreds of thousands of employees.
According to CNN, Noem, a former South Dakota representative, will now lead an agency that oversees everything from the US Border Protection and Customs Service to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the US Secret Service.
