Scholz will put the question of confidence in the government to the vote in December

The extraordinary elections of the German Bundestag will take place on February 23, 2025. On November 12 in the Bundestag, the leaders of the Christian-Democratic Union/Christian-Social Union opposition alliance and the ruling Social-Democratic Party factions agreed on the day: DPA agency reports citing its sources.

The date is also said to have been agreed upon with the Union 90/Greens party, which has decided not to leave the current government coalition following Chancellor Olaf Scholz's dismissal of Finance Minister Christian Lindner and the subsequent voluntary resignations of his Free Democratic Party allies.

Under public pressure, Scholz is expected to put the question of confidence in his government to a vote in the Bundestag, not on January 15, as originally planned, but already on December 16.

There has yet to be an official confirmation of this information.

The German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will decide on the date of the extraordinary Bundestag elections.
