On the eve of the COP29 to be held in Baku, 38 Italian parliamentarians have issued a call for the release of Armenian prisoners of war, the Armenian Embassy in Italy informs.
"Given that Azerbaijan will host COP29, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, on November 11-22, bearing in mind that Italy has excellent trade and political relations with Baku, as well as practical cooperation in the energy sector, which Italy ranks is among the primary European partners of Azerbaijan, taking into account that it is in the interests of Italy to establish stability and peace in the South Caucasus region, therefore also encouraging all actions contributing to the increase of confidence between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the signing of the final peace agreement, noting that after the recent conflicts, for various reasons in Baku 23 Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees are still being held, whose families have been waiting for their return home for a long time, considering that their release will be a positive impulse for the relations between the two countries and will further have an additional positive impact on the entire region and itself. On COP29, the undersigned deputies and senators of the Italian Republic call on the government.
To urge the Azerbaijani partner to release all Armenian prisoners of war and other detained persons within the framework of the event as a manifestation of goodwill and as a sign of friendship with Italy. Contribute to establishing final peace in the region," the title reads.
