As of Sunday, more than 75 million eligible Americans had cast early ballots in the United States presidential election. This is almost half of the total number of voters in 2020, according to Axios.
More than 48% of the total number of 2020 voters (154.6 million) currently cast their vote.
In particular, Axios cites the example of more than 4 million people who have already voted in Georgia, almost 80% of the total voter turnout in 2020.
"This suggests that early voting and mail-in voting are becoming more common voting methods and the new norm in American politics," observers noted.
The newspaper writes that although US presidential candidate Donald Trump has been against mail-in voting for years, since 2020, he and the Republican Party have been urging their supporters to vote early. However, some provisions of mail-in voting continue to be challenged in the courts.
