The head of the Armenian Representation in the EU, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Belgium Tigran Balayan, announced that he received threats from the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the EU, Vagif Sadigov, writes Politico.
"After this incident, the Armenian embassy submitted an official complaint to other diplomatic missions in Brussels, when its ambassador claimed that he received threats from his Azerbaijani colleague," the news agency writes.
In the letter circulated among the ambassadors, cited by Politico, it is stated that Armenian Ambassador Tigran Balayan was subjected to verbal attacks and intimidation by Azerbaijani Ambassador Vagif Sadigov, who made explicit threats to Balayan.
The incident is said to have occurred at the Tangla Hotel in Brussels during a reception organized by the Turkish Embassy in honor of the country's national holiday.
"It is believed to be the first Ankara-sponsored operation to which representatives of the Armenian embassy were invited after the 2020 war between Turkey and Azerbaijan, Turkey's close ally," the website writes.
In a conversation with Politico, Sadigov denied the accusations, calling them "ridiculous." He stated that it was "an ordinary diplomatic event, where there were nice people and good food."
"I am not aware of any letter or statement; Armenian diplomats can say whatever they want," he added.
According to the source, the Armenian Embassy refused to comment further on the exchange of opinions, while the Turkish Embassy waited to respond to the request for information.
