BBC reported that the current president of Moldova, Maia Sandu, announced the victory in the second round of the presidential elections.
Official data has yet to be published, but according to preliminary results, Sandu's rival, the former country's chief prosecutor, Alexandr Stoianoglo, has no chance of catching up to him. Sandu won thanks to the votes of Moldovans living abroad.
Sandu announced that Moldova won these elections, thanked her voters in and abroad, and promised to be the president of all Moldovans.
"Moldova, you won. No one lost in our vote for a decent future. . . I heard your voice, both those who supported me and those who voted for Mr. Stoianoglo. I promise to be the president of all of you," she wrote on her X microblog.
As of two o'clock in the morning local time, when the votes of 98.8% of the precincts were counted, Sandu has collected almost 55% of the votes, while the competitor has a little more than 45%, respectively.
