Joe Biden's administration claims that around 8,000 troops from North Korea are now on the Russian-Ukrainian border and are preparing to engage Ukrainian forces "in the coming days."
These numbers far exceed estimates by Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin, who said a day earlier that "several thousand North Koreans have advanced from training grounds in eastern Russia toward the Kursk region, and a small number are already there."
"If these troops participate in military operations, they will become legitimate military targets," State Secretary Anthony Blinken said on Thursday at a joint press conference with the Defense Minister and the South Korean delegation.
The US has estimated that there are about 10,000 North Korean troops in Russia, Seoul, and its allies have estimated that the number has reached 11,000, and Ukraine claims that the number is around 12,000.
