AFP news agency reports that the European Union is imposing additional tariffs of up to 35.3% on electric cars imported from China. Chancellor Olaf Scholz earlier expressed his opposition to the imposition of such customs duties.
Germany's BMW, Mercedes, and VW have also unequivocally criticized such an initiative. The companies see punitive tariffs as a misguided approach that will not increase the competitiveness of the European automotive industry.
China has already responded. Tariffs of up to 39% on European alcoholic beverages became the first warning shot, especially against France.
The EU wants to protect European industry through tariffs. However, European models assembled in China will also need more innovation. Among them is the Romanian Dacia Spring, the cheapest electric car manufacturer on the market, whose product price starts from 16,900 euros.
