The new US sanctions against Iran are aimed at limiting the financing of Tehran's nuclear program and the development of missile capabilities, said the head of the State Department, Anthony Blinken.
"Today we are taking steps to cut off the revenue stream that the Iranian regime uses to finance its nuclear program and missile development," the Secretary of State said in a statement.
Blinken added that Washington is also seeking to limit Iran's support for its partners and the continuation of conflicts in the Middle East.
On Friday, the US Treasury announced that sanctions are being imposed on all persons working in the oil and petrochemical sectors of Iran's economy. The State Department also imposed sanctions against six organizations and six ships related to Iran's oil trade.
