The USA values the bilateral relations with Azerbaijan. A representative of the State Department told Turan.
"Cooperation with Azerbaijan, which is aimed at the successful holding of COP29 and the achievement of common goals in the field of climate and energy, is an example of what we can achieve by working together. The US is committed to supporting efforts to achieve a dignified and lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, for the realization of a peaceful and prosperous future for the peoples of the South Caucasus," said the representative of the State Department.
It should be noted that the tension between Baku and Washington recently escalated after a group of American lawmakers sent a letter to the Secretary of State criticizing the human rights situation in Azerbaijan and calling for the release of all political prisoners, hostages, and prisoners of war, including Armenians held in Baku prisons. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev rejected that application. After Aliyev's comment, MPs of the Milli Mejlis called on the country's foreign ministry to review its relations with the USA and stop USAID activities in Azerbaijan.
