The Democratic Republic of Congo, the epicenter of the monkeypox epidemic, has begun the first vaccination against the virus, the World Health Organization office said.
"The Ministry of Health of the United Kingdom is launching the first mpox vaccination in Goma, North Kivu, with the support of its partners, including the WHO in Congo, to stop the epidemic in the country. In 2024, more than 30,596 suspected pox cases were reported in the Congo, resulting in more than 988 deaths," the WHO Office X social media page said.
