Defense forces of Ukraine officially confirmed the withdrawal from Ugledar.
Earlier, the Russian military announced the city's capture in the southwest of the Donetsk region. BBC informed Radar Armenia.
According to the operational-strategic group of "Khortitsa" troops, the Ukrainian military decided to withdraw the troops from the city due to the threat of encirclement. A year ago, the loss of Ugledar would have been a severe blow to the Ukrainian army, forcing it to change its defensive configuration on both the Eastern and Southern fronts. The importance of this city (population less than 15,000 before the war) is indicated by the fierce attempts of the Russian army to capture it from the very beginning of the invasion of Ukraine.
Ugledar has lost its importance as an essential element of the defense chain. That the city was doomed became clear in mid-September when Russian units broke through almost simultaneously from the Vodovoia region's right-wing and the Prechistovka region's left.
