Mariah Carey announced the death of her mother and sister on the same day

American singer Mariah Carey announced that her mother, Patricia, and sister, Alison, died within a day, BBC writes.

"My heart is broken; I lost my mother over the weekend. "Unfortunately, the tragic circumstances were such that my sister passed away on the same day," the singer said.

The singer did not talk about the reasons for the death of her mother and sister. It is only known that the star's mother was 87 years old, and her sister was 63. Carey admitted that her relationship with both her mother and sister turned out to be extremely difficult.

Patricia was an opera singer and vocal teacher. In his memoirs published in 2020, Carey wrote that he and his mother were in professional competition. "But when the mother shows jealousy, it causes great pain," he wrote.

The singer said that her sister, Alison, had no contact with her and her brother, Morgan. "Emotionally and physically, it was safer for me not to have anything to do with them," he wrote in his memoirs.

After the book was published, Alison sued Carey for $1.2 million for "incredible emotional distress." The sister called the memories "an attempt at revenge."

Carey's father, Alfred, died of cancer in 2002 at the age of 72.
